As you may be aware, it has regrettably not been possible for us to organise a full Vintage Bus Running Day in Warminster this year. However we though that instead, you might be interested to hear about a new preserved bus event that is being held in Wiltshire in a few weeks time.
The Wiltshire Bristol RE Preserved Bus Running Day will take place on Sunday 24th April 2016 and, as its name suggests, is aimed at those transport enthusiasts who have fond memories of that stalwart of West Country bus and coach services in the 1970s – the Bristol RE.
The event will feature 12 vehicles (10 of which will be REs) operating on 6 routes radiating from Warminster’s Central Car Park to Heytesbury, Codford, Westbury, Corsley Heath, Frome, Beckington and Sutton Veny. Feeder bus services will also operate to the event from Bristol, Bath, Chippenham, Melksham, Trowbridge & Westbury and there will be a number of sales stalls, including the UK Transport Book & Model Sale which is taking place in the nearby Red Cross Hall.
For further details (including details of how to order a programme), please visit the Wiltshire Bristol RE Preserved Bus Running Day website at www.wiltsreday.wordpress.com . Please note, however, that whilst there will inevitably be a few similarities to the normal Warminster Vintage Running Day, the Wiltshire Bristol RE Running Day will be a much smaller affair and will only use single deck vehicles from the 1970’s (so no half-cabs or double deckers – sorry!).
All being well, we hope to be able to hold a full Warminster Vintage Bus Running Day in 2017, but if you are getting withdrawal symptoms, click here to see a list of other Vintage Bus Running Days in the South West, including the Imberbus service which this year will be operating on 20th August.
