Preparations for this Autumn’s Warminster Vintage Bus Running Day are now underway, with posters and leaflets already at the printers and invitations to vehicle owners being prepared. However if October 2014 is too long for you to wait for a ride on a vintage bus, and you have been disappointed by the cancellation of this year’s Bristol Harbourside Rally, then here are details of two West Country vintage bus events during May, that might interest you:
Sunday 11th May: Taunton Bus Running Day,
Organised by our friends at Quantock Heritage, this event currently has 30 vehicles lined up to operate a number of services from Taunton town centre, including a few that are new to the rally circuit or difficult to ride on. This year there will also be some under cover sales stalls – please click here for more details.
Saturday 31st May: Cheltenham District Traction Co. Anniversary Running Day
To commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the Cheltenham District Traction Company and also to mark the retirement of Ian Manning, the Managing Director of its modern day successor, Stagecoach West, the company is organising a Vintage Bus Running Day on Saturday 31st May, when over 20 classic buses from the 1950s/60s/70s will run over the Stagecoach bus network in the Cheltenham/Gloucester/Tewkesbury triangle.
An unusual feature of this event is that with one exception, all of the buses will be running in normal public service with ordinary fares being charged. It will also probably have the longest duration of any running day, with the first bus starting at 6.45am and the last journey arriving back at Cheltenham after 9pm !
Further details of the vehicles and timetables can be found on the Stagecoach West website here.
